Has anyone had any issues parking at GN Transport yard on Bowes?

one of my driver damaged one of there equipment, we offered to pay for the damage but in the end got a bill try to extort money for towing, loss of a trip and material repair.

we told them to go through insurance, they replied not an option.

how would you handle this?

If you can't negotiate an equitable solution yourself, turn the whole thing over to your insurance provider. Let them handle it, you pay for that service already.

If you call your insurance company they will tell you that since it happened on private property it is considered "no fault". Your insurance company looks after you and their insurance company looks after them. Since the damage is probably less than both your deductible's it is in GN's best interest to accept whatever offer you make them. If they still give you a hard time, I would be looking for new parking.

If you have a good broker they should be able to discuss it with GN without actually going to the insurance company but if they are going to be unreasonable then you will have to go through insurance.

When you have fleet insurance, from the way I understand your premium is based off of the amount of claims you put in the previous year. So let's say the driver did $5K damage to equipment (for argument's sake) and it goes through insurance, GN's premium the next year will go up by probably closer to $10K the next year. So unless it's a big claim, you just want to avoid insurance completely.

Heck, bodywork goes down in price when the body shop knows it's a private vs insurance job. I'd try to work with them on it.

It is what is paid in and what is paid out, basically if the insurance company pays out less than 60% of your premium you shouldn't see a big raise in premiums and believe it or not they are more forgiving on a big accident than a lot of little ones. So you have to decide throughout the year what you are paying yourself and what you are claiming. Any injuries or possible injuries always report as that comes back to haunt you, trust me I know. Obviously anything under the deductible or very close to it should be paid without reporting.
