Hi,

Does anyone have any info how to take empty pallets across the border (to south i.e.)?

I was told I don't need to create a manifest - my driver just shows at the border and tells them that it's empty pallets and they will let him through?

I'm not 100% sure about Canada into the US, but you may have to have documentation that the pallets aren't from overseas where I believe the Asian beetle or some other nasty insect comes from. Have had experience with this concerning containers from Asia. Just a thought before you arrive at the border.

If you are coming from the USA into Canada - then you used to just clear on what they call a container bank file# - present your BOL etc at the booth and they release you right there. There is normally like a free trade letter I believe that goes with the BOL and states this container bank file number.

No - you cannot just show up at border - an ace manifest must be done. Even if going empty you will be turned away.

You do not have to clear customs if you only have skids on. You need to have a bill of lading stating used packaging material for international traffic 10.41a, TD55981 sec 321A

Do I need to create a shipment as well for the ACE?

Trucks cross the border MT all the time with no ace manifest...NEVER had an issue entering into Detroit/Port Huron or Lewiston/Buffalo.

For the 30 seconds it takes to do an mty manifest why would you possibly cause your drivers grief at the bridge... Just wondering???

Because there is no grief in crossing with out an Ace manifest. Pull up to the booth , pass out your passport/fast card, answer the usual questions (they may ask for trailer license plate), smile and drive away.
