Does no one pay company drivers in compliance with legislation any more? Just posted an inbound load and every call so far is a company who pays their drivers as independent contractors while driving company trucks. Thanks but no thanks, no need to participate in the wholesale degradation of the industry by supporting those who treat regulatory compliance as a joke.

Now if we could just get logistics companies and brokerage firms to apply the same filter....my rant for the day...sorry guys.

I hear you,
There are some great carriers that we are onboarding that have all their ducks in a row, then there are others:

Me: Hi, I can't find you in WSIB's system, are you able to offer me your account number so I can verify your account is up to date prior to sending our first load to you?
Sketchy: We employ only owner operators, so we don't need to pay into WSIB for them.
Me: Ok, may I please have a copy of your WSIB exemption letter that applies to the Owner Operator you are putting under my load, also I'd like a copy of their bodily injury insurance should they be injured at my shipper, we need to know they are covered.
Sketchy: Um, er, you want what?
Me: I'm sorry we are unable to onboard you at this time, please let us know once you have sorted your shit out.

I'm sure we all have similar stories.

Keep well,
Mike

Send you MP an email it's the only way anything will get down is to put pressure on the government.

While you're discussing paying drivers according to the law, who is paying OVERTIME to their drivers after their 60th on duty/driving hour each week? Bet this list is miniscule.

I have 6 owner operators but they use their own trucks. 2 of them use their own plates. Is this considered an owner operator?

If they work for you exclusively they will likely be classified as "dependent contractors". Whether thy use their own plates or not has no bearing on their classification under the law.
