Doug Coleman Trucking Closes Ingersoll Depot

Well, they never needed my business. Asked for quotes twice and never got back to me..

I love to speculate and come up with a bunch of reasons but have learned that posting them will often leave me red-faced and completely wrong.

All I know is that over the past few years the company has closed their Owen Sound (previously Echo), Kitchener, Saint Catharines, Windsor, St. Thomas locations and soon to be Ingersoll. It looks like they are downsizing as all they will have left is London. There is not much left any more.

Maybe the owners have had enough of trying to find drivers and chose this time to exit the market. They have been in business since 1985 and maybe age/health of the owners have something to do with it. The GM/Cami strike surely didn't help and what will be the long term prospects of the plant now is anyone's guess. On the other hand it probably is just another example of the consolidation in the carrier market that we have seen in the past few years.

This is good news for me as a carrier west of Kitchener as maybe more drivers will become available looking for work. (The magical driver tree ;) - reference for @Rob ).

Weren't most of their drivers regional Ontario drivers? Lots of those around I thought.. or is it now hard to find local Ontario drivers as well?

Yes, you're correct but some of these drivers will be willing to run US when there are little or no options. At least we can have a discussion with them. The pay for OTR drivers is better than local drivers and sometimes the right runs might work.

McClays is advertising for 58 AZ drivers to fill for the routes they've been awarded from GM that Coleman had been doing. Looks like the Coleman drivers have a landing spot if they want one.
