Did you guys catch this tweet ???

You can bet they are going to be overzealous. Remember, they have to make the public think that trucks and their drivers are the big, bad guys, and they need lots of financial resources to fight those bad guys...

It looks as though Waterloo Regional has bred their own Wyatt Earp .. LOL.
It's absolutely a money maker. It would be naĂŻve to believe otherwise. If they're after the junk that runs locally and never crosses the scales, then I say good for them, but I seriously doubt that is the case.
That great and wonderful defender of the people, Officer Cam Woolley (thankfully now retired) was supposed to be after the stuff that never crossed the scales too, but spent the majority of his time in MTO territory.
For all their perceived faults, at least MTO guys know the business they are policing. Regional and OPP police haven't got a clue how to do their regular jobs let alone specialize in something as complicated as the trucking industry and its equipment.
Remember when we were all a bit younger and police cars used to have the "To Protect and Serve" motto on them? I think today's motto is "To Charge and Incarcerate". They seem to police by the rule "When in doubt (which is most of the time) write a ticket and let the courts sort it out.". And then they wonder why murderers get set free because there isn't enough court time to try them.

I welcome any and all enforcement that brings in 3 trucks and finds 14 charges. If it is overzealous, it can be fought in court.

We need more enforcement - it levels the playing field.

but again...the stats always get skewed....3 trucks COULD be 3 landscape trucks pulling trailers with lawn mowers and weed wackers in them...not necessarily Tractor Trailers or Trucks as we call them! :)

I can't wait for this level playing field I keep hearing about. All the regulations and truck news keep telling that this and that regulation is going to level the playing field. So when are they regulating the prices us small guys pay for tires and trucks and trailers and fuel an parts and and and to the same as the big guys that keep shoving shit down our throats?? Just wondering.

Jim, I agree with you if it's legit, but, I have the sickest feeling that it is not. It's bad enough that drivers get inspected at Windsor, Putnam, and maybe Milton, but now they have to deal with roving county cops too? We all know Windsor and Putnam don't cooperate so it's plausible you could get a level 1 at both locations on the same trip. Add in Waterloo Regional, and the OPP and it turns out to be not a very productive day.

If this County Mountie is targeting trucks that never cross a plate or avoid them then giddy up but we have built up our reputation for good equipment with the MTO we really don't need to be stopped 5 times a day. I'm all for targeted enforcement don't waste time on the people that follow the rules get the ones that don't and there is enough of them to keep him busy. Jim L you welcome it but be careful what you ask for because if every region puts these guys on then they are all competing for our money and you won't be able to turn a corner in this province without the possibility of being pulled over. Remember Ontario has always been fine first and never ever educate.

There's an article somewhere, Truck News I think, that says Waterloo Regional's truck cops are going to be patrolling the 401. That tells me they're not looking for landscapers, local dump trucks, and guys skirting the scales. They're going to be after Americans who aren't likely to fight a ticket, big name Canadian companies that have deep pockets, and guys running newer equipment - because if you can afford a new truck, you can afford a ticket.
This has Southern Georgia justice written all over it boys and girls.
Just my humble 2 cents worth :)

Welcome to Ontario where it's all about the revenue, there is a reason a paperwork check by the DOT in the US is a helluva lot shorter than a paperwork check in Putnam or Windsor. Hell even a level one is shorter in the US than in Ontario.
