The CTA, OTA and other provincial trucking organizations have been calling for more enforcement since the beginning of time. The industry is fully aware of the lack of enforcement and most want to see more enforcement.
Unfortunately, the general public will never understand the challenges just like I don't fully understand the dark areas of the construction industry. Every industry has them. A website isn't going to do much to get everyday ordinary Canadians outside of our industry to demand action when they're worried about what alcohol is not on the shelf. It is only an avenue to look into it further if you're interested.
We all know the problems. Illegal areas (or grey areas as they call them) of incompliancy is rewarded and not shunned. Carriers act on them, enforcement turns a blind eye, they incur less costs, brokers use them because they can run for less, brokers like it because they can make more money until the customer demands less because other brokers are coming in lower, the broker lowers the rate and the carrier needs to find something else to trim. The cycle goes around and around until there is more enforcement or brokers stop using them.
The silver lining here? It's a sliver.
Less immigration means less drivers in the absolutely horribly designed LMIA program.
Increased scrutiny on driving schools and DL issuance.
