CTA heralds Driver Inc. win, but says more must be done

Does the government think for a minute, that a trucking company utilizing Driver Inc will fill out T4a for their drivers, who they are screwing over, risk the fact that the carrier will be held accountable for misclassifying, have their drivers get audited, and have their drivers all come back to them complaining?

Never mind....that was rhetorical. They'll never fill out one T4a. But all the carriers doing the right thing will have to spend time and money fulfilling the wishes of this government.

A lack of enforcement only hurts law abiding citizens. A CRA financial audit is all that is needed.

They may not fill out T4As, but the action of making them required gives CRA recourse to go after the companies for all the taxes and source deductions not paid by their driver Inc drivers. Also, a company filing for their hst rebate that has no T4s or t4As is a flag that should trigger an audit. Or information sharing on CVOR/NSC or IFTA data with no T4s. It should make it easier to find the non compliant carriers. With increased enforcement and joint inspections at scales there should be lots of data to target the right companies for audit.

SIGH...... :(
Boy...wishful thinking there.
We already have laws that cover everything you said there. It's not being done now, what makes you think that T4A's will give them the will for more enforcement?

The CTA gave the government an out - that's it. Something the government can do with little or no work. What was really needed to be lobbied was MORE ENFORCEMENT-that takes work. Get these CRA employees back in an office instead of sitting in their boxers, looking after their kids, playing Fortnite, oh and have a 20 minute zoom meeting at 1. When you have these employees actually showing up, they can do something.

To your point, enforcement is key. The tools now exist for enforcement to happen. To get enforcement to happen the pressure needs to be kept on. To do that, call your MP, have a meeting make your views clear and that your vote in the next election depends on meaningful enforcement. And then keep calling until that enforcement happens.

I have met with my MP numerous times. He has listened and is calling and has called on the government to do something.
Unfortunately, it seems like everything is broken - not just the trucking industry. I'm sure my comments follow in step with every other meeting the MP has had with the constituents except for a different industry.
