Cost per mile question for the carriers

not really, airport road carriers book 3500 miles any direction for 3500$ especially if they have one of those Canada only drivers doing a delivery and they use the load to get them back to the yard and out to usa with cross border

Well, I didnt exactly expect that response. My question was actually based on a carrier telling me they need to run 2.60 a mile to survive ( on to AB frozen ) and in trying to make sure I could be near or close to in-line w carriers costs when I quote; I figured I would throw it out there to the carriers on here. I do realise short haul per mile works different, and I should have clarified the lane I was looking to compare at.

As a broker w 20 yrs + in this industry, I often reach out to carriers to discuss these types of things as I see the value in having good carriers as much as good clients. This seems like an easier way to get multiple opinions

Cheers !

I don't have a lot of experience with reefer, but regarding dry van freight out of AB I have always had a hard time finding anything that pays more than 1/mile from AB, so it would be priced accordingly.

With a reefer, unless you are loading out of the meat plants in Alberta, you are taking whatever shit freight you can get to go over the mountains and into BC/WA/OR so you can load reefer back out.
