Contracts

The fact that contracts are typically open-ended in our business (or at least auto-renewable after a term) is twofold:
1) so that if things go off the wire, it's unlikely that the process needs to go to court
2) so lawyers don't have to get involved repeatedly ... also one of the reasons incumbents have the advantage

When the services require specific investment to handle specific business, then a contract is specifically done for it. Those would be for dedicated fleets or warehouse storage. But generally not for transportation services that are 'for hire'.

The never ending contract is a problem we always change it to a year and no one seems to question it.

Just got another email from Service Freight, I guess its that time of the year again. Looks like I won't be signing it again this year. Funny thing is, we've only moved two orders for them in the last six years, last one was in Feb 2015. Why the hell am I on their emailing list in the first place?

I got it last week and never signed it either. We have done quite a bit of work for them over the years but only about 10 shipments last year and nothing since last July

And did anyone ever get a copy signed by the other party? I've only seen it 3 times. Usually send the copy with our signature on it but rarely do the requesting party send a copy back with their signature on it. Please, Tell me if I'm wrong but doesn't that invalidate the contract if the asking party doesn't even take the time to sign it and send back a copy?
