TORONTO, Ont. -- Chiquita Brands has told the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) it never demanded its transportation suppliers to stop using fuel derived from the Canadian oil sands, even as its environmental partner ForestEthics wages a PR war... [Full Story]

As far as I am concerned, Chiquita can shove their bananas up their tailpipes!

Let's all make sure that when we buy food, "wherever possible" to use "alternative bananas with a lower Chiquita footprint"...

:D

The reality of it

Lets get real!

The CTA or OTA should actually fund a commission that's goal would be to determine the actual oil reserves left on the planet.
We are always running out and depleting the reserves but, miraculously always find new oilfields.

Thus the real global price of a barrel of crude ( which is quite arbitrary ) could be established. Since, the purported scarcity of the raw material is a huge factor in setting it's price, a realistic price would be achieved which is probably closer to half of today's price
The tar sands would be out of commission due to the high cost of extraction, which requires a price of near $80/ barrel to be worthwhile.

Hence no more dirty - polluting - greenhouse gas spewing - migratory duck drowning , oil sands nightmare.

Thus it may be possible to hold face amongst the other members of the G7 that have not reneged on the Kyoto protocol.

ON THE SPONTANEOUS RENEWAL OF OIL AND GAS FIELDS

read this,. basically the earth's molten centre is replenishing oil and gas reserves all the time,. running low on oil and gas is a myth perpetuated by the oil and gas industry obviously. Oil fields drilled in south america in the 40's were supposed to last 20-30yrs,. they are today producing at 3times the rate from when they were first drilled.
I don't think any one wants to realise just how much of the world is controlled by oil companies,. they have so much money they simply buy sympathetic governments,.
