Okay, this has to be a new record. Krystal @ CH Robinson in Vaughan offered me $100 for two skids 1500lbs Pickering, ON to Florence, KY. In her defense it didn't have to deliver tomorrow, Monday was "okay too".

I know it's not very charitable to mock someone this close to Christmas, but I just can't help myself.

Do you think that maybe Krystal is doing crystal?

Maybe that's it. With it being so close to Christmas CHR are moving freight for their customers for $0.00 and trying to limit their exposure. Either that or Krystal is on crystal.

That explains why I had a customer tell me yesterday, that they had a quote for 2 skids from Lindsay, ON to Trenton, NJ for $125.00!!!!!! I should have asked Santa to pick it up with his sleigh! I don't know, can you get it to Toronto for $125.00???

LOL...that's what I was thinking Loaders!! that is a good rate for Cartage! hahahahaha...what a joke! CH is on a huge cut and slash campaign right now....everyone be prepared for this to continue in the new year.

CH's slash & burn?

Got this today in the AHERN ADVISORY

IRS instituting a crackdown on independent contractors.
Many trucking companies continued to struggle; approximately 1,500 – 2,000 additional trucking companies went out of business.

This created a tremendous truck shortage, with approximately 260,000 trucks being taken out of our system in a 2 year period;

To complicate matters, banks continued to put their “strangle hold” on releasing working capital to small businesses.

CSA 2010 was implemented, which will certainly impact the (already dwindling) driver/truck shortage, and create additional demand for trucks in a system that’s already struggling.

The good news for the trucking industry is that;
Capacity shortages equals opportunity.
Capacity will continue to be an issue.
Freight rates, for the next 12 – 18 months, should continue to rise, and;
Shippers are already starting to experience a lack of truck availability.

Perhaps the law of supply & demand do not influence CH Robinson.

Unfortunately industry destroying sob's such as CH Robinson will keep pushing carriers to the breaking point. The real bull of it is that some carrier out there will take this freight and set the new a low rate standard for us who actually pay our bills.

I would have to agree, but then again CH Robinson have always sold cheap freight. But they manage to get it booked with someone.... I don't believe in cheap freight, I tell my customers you want cheap freight, you get what you pay for. If they don't want to pay the price I want to offer the carrier, they can go to the CH's and the rest of them that do it cheap. I have had several come back to me for the service even though the rates were higher.... In this business your name is very important...

In my opinion, they are probably trying to take freight away from a common carrier or something ... on small LTL the common guys can sometimes make us look bad ... but we all know the service isn't the same. Depending on the dims of the skids, those rates are NOT impossible. But these guys make a killing on a 5000 lb shipment.

But at CH, some of the offices are like sweat shops, they get phone jockeys to call around or whatever not knowing what they are selling ... eventually these people learn I believe.

As far as cheap rates, well they have quite a rep for this, as well as taking freight at a cheap rate and calling the customer back and upping for 'one-time-only' things ... and you have to admit, they are by far the largest brokerage company around. Obviously carriers and customers find value in them somewhere ... though they are no friend of mine.

CHR is the devil you know. For me, their payment record and ease of business is a positive. However, we all know they are in the business of selling price and hoping service matches up with it. When I hear that customers have CHR as a freight broker and quoting like they are a carrier, it always ends up that the customer shops with other brokers if CHR cannot cover the load. Eventually, the buyer psychology of going for the lowest and brokers entertaining that idea will end up both scraping the bottom of the barrel and someone having to pony up dough when the guy at the bottom of that barrel bails for a better rate. Carriers who compete against them get stuck on price, never mind service or value. They're a friend and competitor all at once for carriers.

I deal with some of the CHR offices on a regular basis. Not once have they ever held a gun to my head and demanded I take any loads for a lower rate than what I charge everybody else.

It's another one of those, if they pay your rate, take their load, if they don't, then move on.

However, I will not deal with Saif again. I find him to be dishonest at the very least. I called another CHR office on a load, they said that they would redirect me to Saif, I said no thanks, don't bother, I will find other freight.

you too eh, I do not buy but sell loads now but MAN he is so BAD. I ended up putter every CHR office on credit hold to get waiting time he promissed on some loads (was lucky was summer when could name price for trucks so they all made him pay) agree with rest of post as well stick to your gunns, funny when they call back with tail between legs and your price!!

CH can do that because..they are CH. They know that carriers will book with them before looking around at some of the other brokers out there who aren't as well known. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. That's why CH can do it...they're CH and they can squeeze your balls because you let them!
