OK. I just shattered the screen on the LAST Crackberry I will ever own (bold 9900). I hated the stupid touch screen anyways (ever conference call someone with your ear??) May RIM rest in Peace.

Anyhow...What do you folks recommend? All I want is text, email, and phone. Communication! I don't need fancy apps. PDF reader and maps are nice, but thats about all. Maybe basic web browsing but I could live without it.
I think an i-phone is physically too large...I wear jeans and t- shirts. Nowhere to put a mini computer!
I have looked all over the net...if you aren't a student or a suit and tie exec there doesn' seem to be any guidance.
Suggestions?
Help?
Am I wrong to not embrace touch screen?
I'm sick of this. Where's my bag phone????

Dave, we are in the exact same boat. Bold 9900 - hate the touch screen. I have had it for about 2 months and it just died. Kind of glad I have a reason to get rid of it!
I don't miss my bag phone though!

I do understand the frustration.

If you disable the screen 'while in call' functions it's saves some headache (I've got a torch and have not conferenced but have muted people occasionally).

How did you break the screen?? I've got a handy carrying case (leather) that is slim and will easily fit in your pocket. Best part of the case (yes, made by BB and close to $35 each) is that it protects the phone while at the same time ensurring you don't 'pocket dial' anyone. Wear and tear on the case means I've got to buy one every 12-18 months...

Everyone I know who had an iPhone has since got rid of it for smaller (and with full real keypad).

Keep cool Dave,

Mike

I really recommend the iPhone, it even has an app for Microsoft Lync & other great apps for work!

I tried the new Lumia 920 which a friend of mine had who works for Nokia and in my opinon it is the best smart phone out there. It will only be on sale in November, but if you can wait its a great buy.

Lumia 920 eh? I take a look. Hopefully it will work on Bell.
My phone still works...I broke it because I quit using my holster. There is no way to grab the thing without pushing a button or activating the touch screen. I locked it 90 percent of the time but the other 10% was embarrassing (pocket called the wife while flirting with the girls at the bank!!!!). Anyways, was in my shirt pocket while fixin a truck and...crunch.
I have read the Samsung 551 isnt bad. Guy at Bell recommended SONIM (although he doesn't sell it). It is machine gun proof, but doesn't have QWERTY.

I got a Blackberry 9670. It is a flip phone with a full keyboard. I used to hate flips as they are too flimsy, but this has been pretty good. Being in and out of trucks I got tired of seatbelts catching on the holder of other phones. The 9670 is 1/4" taller than a business card, so it is in my shirt pocket when driving and back pocket otherwise. Bounces pretty good too. We were all just told yesterday that the company is going whyPhone :(. Yeah, those will last. IT meet truck, truck meet IT.

I have been a Blackberry lover since they first came out, but I to am having issues with my bold. sometimes when I call people I can hear them, but they can not hear me and a lot of times the phone freezes and then you have to take battery out and wait 5 mins for it to work again. I will check with my buddy and see if the Nokia will work with Bell and let you know. Samsung is a good phone also and you might get even cheaper due to their lawsuit with Apple.

I think that if you're not good with going to touch screen, the Blackberry is the only viable option. MikeJr's solution is good for dealing with the 9900.

I personally am a Blackberry fan, but unfortunately when you see that retailers are not promoting them much anymore, and apps aren't being developed for their OS, it's not good. So I think we'll all have to get used to the touchscreen.

On the bright side, you won't need BES any more so your bill will go down by $50 a month, and for personal use (browsing, gaming, that sort of thing) an iPhone or Android product is way better.

I wouldn't go with Nokia because they're also lame duck, operating under protection for a while. The Samsung Galaxy series is impressive, the Nexus is too but it's oversized and just plain funky to carry on a holster, I would think.

Remember, Motorola is owned by Google (and Android is a Google product). I think the new RAZRs are worth looking at.

iphones are cool if you sit at a desk and that's it.

If you're on the dock... in and out of trucks... they just don't make the cut. They just wont take the abuse.

I'm on my second BB Curve (first one lasted 2 years). Cheap and simple. Phone, Email, BBM, internet.

It does what I need and it's a pretty tough little unit.

iPhones with the right covers last a long time.

even after water damage it worked using the rice trick!

BB just lost my votes, I had the torch slide touch qwerty, it was horrible!!!

the iPhone's capabilities are just amazing!

especially for group work, office apps, etc.
