We should start listing all the carriers on here who are the worst bottom feeders of the industry, and to all you brokers who do use them, think about it this way, there will come a day that you tender these carriers a load, and poof, they will disapear overnight, along with your load. It's just a matter of time.

but as the saying goes..one man's trash is another man's gold..thus it would be hard to reach an overall consenus on who is good or bad. Also, you might be getting yourself into hot water by naming names unless you have proof. Not that I'm one of them...just sayin...

I think bottom feeders would be a pretty hard thing to define,as most if not all of the major Canadian and US carriers are probably the worst offeners on cutting the hearts out of the rates. Now who is the bottom feeders the major players or the little guy that matches the rate??

I read an article about a year and a half ago where one of the major players said per mile rates did not matter as he now goes on margins as it is okay to cut rates to get to your high paying inbound freight!! To me that sounds like he was trying to justify cutting rates!!

About 3 months ago holyer than thou I was a gyspy but now my poop dosent stink I will get all of you guys speeed limited transport.
came through Brantford and offered everybody a buck a mile outbound are they bottom feeders?

So what is a bottom feeder a small company that does there best to survive by matching rates or the big boys that cut them to try and have it all???

Not a good idea

You'd only be giving a list of all the cheapest carriers to cheapie brokers and shippers who run a business based on the lowest common denominator. That would only further screw up the industry. The lowballers are not the majority. If only the rest of you guys would get that. Let them take the load for a loss. When all the lowballer's trucks are filled with losing money freight, then you will now have a rare commidity, an empty truck. You can charge what you want. You'll be making money while the lowballers lose. You'll be here in 6 months, they won't. When you hear "well I can move it for $$$" say "go ahead" Figure out what your price is and stick to it. Yes you'll lose loads, but only the one's you'l lose money on anyway.

Well thats a start anyways.

Like I said..one man's trash is another's gold.. I've used some of the above for years with fine results.. But I can understand your frustration when someone doesn't come through as promised.

Truboy

In fairness to Truboy, we are a carrier as well and work with them on a regular basis and I have found them to be first-class.
There are always operational problems, but they have solved them in a professional manner.
Thought I would post a positive comment on their behalf. Would not hesitate to use them anytime or take their loads.

I have to agree with you Pablo... our rates are "up there" & when people call looking for a cheap rate, when they hear my quote usually say " how much"...but the people that know our service etc always call us first.

Please tell me???

I would like to know what makes me different than you Mr. Speed? How can you come out here and state that I'm a bottom feeder, and you aren't? I hate to burst your bubble, but the industry is screwed, and I'm simply trying to make something of it. I'm trying to defend my investment, and makesure that we are able to have a job to come to each and everyday for not only myself, but for my 50 employees. I'm not trying to undercut anyone, or run anyone into the ground. We have costs too, and this market, isn't the easiest for anyone, let alone if someone thinks that we're a bottom feeder. We're all bottom feeders, ever heard of the expression. "sh*t rolls down hill," Well guess where the transportation industry is located? At the bottom of the hill. J.Way, I appreciate the nod, and the same goes to you guys. Mr. Speed, if you feel that i'm doing something so terribly wrong, please pm, me and we can discuss. I know my sh*t stinks, and I'm willing to learn if you can teach me.

Bottom Feeders

As much as this site is good to exchange information and points of view, I dont think we should be posting articles such as this.
Tru Boy has done a good job for us over the years and its unfair to broadcast to the world, an individuals comment such as that.

Each and every one of us in this business has done things that we either regret later, or other things that we are not proud of. These days survival is the name of the game and we too have done what it takes to keep our guys working, and the revenue rolling in. I would never call us a bottom feeder, ever

The day will come when demand picks up. If there are any bottom feeders, they will be gone by then, as there are some failing every week now.

I dont think what you are doing is fair, its a case by case bases....I have used Redman quite a few times and still do. They do a great job for me, as for the other ones I havent used. If you are going to put someones name out there then you better be sure you have concrete back up, one day you may be on the other end of this.

Carriers and brokers "build" relationships.

Some carriers will do things for some brokers without hesitation because they know that they will be fairly compensated.

That very same carrier may have been treated (in their eyes) unfairly by another broker and may not be so willing to toss in those little extras.

This is a very tough call. One brokers view of a "bottom feeder" may be another brokers "go to" guy.

I have my "Only call if you're stuck" list sure... but I'm not so sure this is the place to post it.
