Canadian border closed

Yup, been closed since yesterday afternoon, we got 1 driver thru on a paper package early yesterday afternoon, but brokers are a real pain on wanting to do paper, and trucks are jambed up sleeping on the Peace Bridge, so no way to get around them anyway.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — No commercial traffic is allowed into Canada due to a system timing issue, according to the Canadian Border Services Agency.
The Canadian Border Services Agency confirmed the issue is affecting the entire border.
Commercial traffic heading into the US is not impacted.

We just got thru Emerson, MB with paper - 4 hours and they wanted not a paper printout of the package but an email from the customs broker directly to the border officer...that was not very easy to communicate to the broker.

I spoke to a contact at CBSA. Some progress has been made to get the system back up and running. Currently there is a large backlog of data that needs to be processed and unfortunately that will only be solved with time. For my trucks, ACI manifest was accepted but the broker side has not flowed through yet.
For the port of Windsor (0453), if you have no other government departments (OGD) for your shipment (ex FCIA), just a straight clearance, they will accept two copies of an ACI manifest proven to be sent over two hours ago with the transaction numbers beside the CCN. They cannot accept this process for shipments with OGD.

All other ports may have a different process or requirement; you should call the specific port to identify what are the requirements.

It appears, at this moment in time, that CBSA has gotten the backup caught up. Let's hope they can keep it up with Thanksgiving just around the corner. I'd expect a bit more volume northbound this week because of missed opportunities last week and a holiday coming up pushing 10 business days down into 9. The US Gov't shutdown is also causing slowdowns and increased wait times at US ports.

Here is a CBC report on the issue:
