Driver missed his 1pm delivery appt in Brampton by 2 hours and the explanation was that the driver forgot to let anyone know he was 2 hours behind schedule. They were given a 6AM appt the next day and the driver arrived at 9:30AM. The dispatcher (Paul) said that the driver got into work late and there was bad traffic... oh brother.

Sure seems like the drivers wear the pants at Caliber Express.

This doesn't make them different from probably 75% of the carriers out there. Basically, we tell a carrier that if they're not honoring appointments, forget about waiting time for sure. And we usually note it so we don't use them on anything that we or our customers are at risk of getting fines over.

We have a few clients who require either delivery or pick-up appointments. Fortunately, they are flexible if problems arise and will re-schedule when needed. What causes the most problems is when the carrier doesn't advise us if they are going to be late. We all recognize the fact that things happen and trucks are delayed, but carriers who know where their trucks are and stay on top of the situation are the ones that we keep using.

I agree. Ultimately you want only those carriers, but it's hard to not use anyone who isn't 100% compliant, because face it ... most just aren't. Sometimes the way I presented it just helps them see the picture next time. Of course, if there is just no respect, we take that into effect when deciding who core carriers will be on steady lanes going forward.

They did 2 loads for us last week. Both had pick up and delivery appts and they were on time for both.

Appreciate the feedback and completely agreed on the "stuff happens". That was my attitude on the first missed appt, but not the second. Why even bother with the excuse, just tell me that your Diva Driver slept in and move on.
