Business in general

We're seeing the same Pablo..... a definate upturn compared to the same period last year. That isn't saying it's wonderful, as last year was so bad, but it is a real improvement :)

As a carrier we are noticing a steady increase in demand for our service. At this time we are not adding equipment due to the current state of depressed rates. We do anticipate a small general rate increase by end of Q3 this year. A completely different scenario from this time last year.

We have double the outbound loads this weekend over the normal for the last few months and we have turned down probably another 10 or 12 today also........hopefully it is a continuing trend.

Amen Lowmiler...AMEN!!

Same here...been climbing since NOV actually. Numbers are well over last years which is good, but as stated above, still not where we would like them....but on the rise none the less!

We as well have noticed a small increase in volume. Regular shippers seem to have a few more outbound shipments as compared to last years numbers. However, as a result of the slow economy over the last 12 months, it could be a few more months before we see any increase in the rates. It might take shippers a while before they realize the days of "rock-bottom" rates are drawing to a close.

Business doesnt suck, but we are hoping that it picks up to the point someday that it will.

Seriously, up 9% first quarter 2010 over 2009

January was a real good month ... February believe it or not was not as good as January but was still up a fair bit over '09 and March shaping up pretty good.

On outbound freight it is hard to say what will happen with rates because indications are there are not enough trucks going outbound to support the inbound freight. I'd say it is likely we'll start seeing opportunities to raise rates on IB freight very shortly though.

I have been getting some inquiries from customers concerned about the service levels from their current providers -- something I haven't seen for close to 2 years.

Business has picked up there is no doubt about and I am finally getting over 2.00 per mile for backhauls. Let's stick to our rates guys! However, shippers and freight brokers are getting slower to pay.
I have several big accounts that have had an increase in average days to pay recently.

Is the credit market tightening?

Agreed. Some customers have slowed their payment schedule by a week or two. The small to medium size shippers especially. I believe this is a general symptom of slowing receivables across the board. In tight economic times, companies will sometimes take on some new business that might be a little questionable, just to keep people and machines working, only to discover that the new business doesn't pay within terms. This delay flows right down through the chain.
