Heads up to my fellow freight brokers out there. We just recently dodged a bullet with a pretty elaborate scam using a large, well known company. We received a request for quotes regarding a number of shipments within the US. Our investigation revealed that the company certainly appeared legitimate. However when we reached out to another source at the company, they told us that their corporate identity had recently been hacked and to not conduct any business with people pretending to be Burns & McDonnell. I will admit, our staff was a little “star struck” at first, blinded by the scope of the potential new business and the seeming legitimacy of the possible new customer. When business is slow, as it is now, it’s easy to jump the gun. Lesson learned at our place….”if it seems to good to be true”! Fortunately no money was lost, just some time, but a valuable lesson received.
