Good news, but pointless unless the US removes their January 22nd mandate. As of now American drivers can’t enter Canada unless vaccinated and Canadian drivers can’t enter the US unless vaccinated.
 
It appears that Canadian Border Services spoke out of turn. Government policy on the mandate hasn’t changed. Someone will get spoken to about this communication misstep.

Canada is becoming more and more marxist and communist every day. Who would have thought that Canadians would be coerced into putting something in their body to keep their job or allow them to keep going on with schooling or even entering a some stores? When governments think of a 'significant' tax to force people in to consider getting a vaccination that has proven to not be 100% effective we have problems.

My guess is that CBSA was discussing on how to enforce with Canada Health it and somehow CBSA got the impression that they didn't have to enforce. CBSA sent out the news release and Canada Health decided to twist their arm.

In the face of a common enemy in the 1940's, Canadian citizens freely gave up many of their "rights' temporarily to defeat the axis powers. Why we are having such a hard time now to make similar sacrifices for the common good, is puzzling. Personally, I applaud Quebec’s proposed tax on the unvaccinated. I mean, we allow smoking but we tax smokers through their purchases of tobacco products, a known health hazard. The government has a duty to protect its citizens and a vaccine mandate is part of that duty. The sooner everyone who medically can receive a vaccination does so, the sooner we will be out of this. If that makes me a Marxist or a communist, I’m sorry, but so be it.

@loaders - access to information. Hard to verify/question things in the 40's, hence why the propaganda was much more effective than it is now(it is more readily available now mind you) . WWII +/- COVID-19 ? Come on...

They freely gave up their freedoms (don't confuse them with rights) - those who refused were not coerced into doing it with reprimands, threats of taxes and loss of jobs and opportunities. Over 80% of Canadians freely got the shot.

Look all I am saying is that the vaccine program from day one was not 100% effective. For it to be the most effective we need GLOBAL uptake and that will never happen either. I urge the government to continue to educate, offer and ask people to do whatever doctors think or feel will help but the coercion has to stop.
What will be the end game for the government? How many shots will we need? What happens when shot number 6 is needed - how will the un-vaxxed ever get to what the doctors want because that will take a year of shots and by the end of the year could it be 7 or 8? Will there be a gun by the military put to the un-vaxxed head? How far do we have to go down this road before we say enough is enough? Canada has over 80% uptake in the current vaccine mandate with supposedly lots of availability for those who feel its important. Be done with trying to get the last few stragglers.

So sorry but I'm sick and tired after two years of COVID and one year of vaccine requirements, which apparently didn't work, that doctors and government can't get it straight and we are no further ahead in this mess than we were in March 2020 at the very beginning.

I'm not posting any more about this issue.

Let’s see…..we restricted people’s freedom of movement, we restricted and prohibited the purchases of numerous foods and other products. We restricted the consumption of electricity, petroleum and a host of other necessities. This was all accomplished through the threat and imposition of severe fines, imprisonment and upon conviction, death. Just for laughs and giggles, we imprisoned thousands of Canadian citizens , uprooted them from their homes and placed them into guarded camps, all based strictly on their ethnicity. No, it isn’t hard to verify what happened in the 1940’s. And to think that there are people who are screaming bloody murder over getting a vaccine that will keep them out of the hospital and will contribute to bringing this pandemic to its knees! Astounding!

You just keep channeling that energy at your brothers and sisters and not at the main problem, that's what the government would like you to do. Good job comrade.

Not really sure what you’re trying to say. We are talking about the 1940’s for goodness sake. They do still teach that time period in history class don’t they? Government conspiracies…….really?
 
Wouldn't know loaders - didn't major in History and that was a while ago. The point about the 40's was the access to information for the regular person was extremely limited - compared to now, where access to information is much easier for the everyday person and people aren't blindly led (okay, thats a bit of a stretch for a few...)

If you think that unvaccinated people are the largest reason we are in the position we are in - I appreciate your perspective and support any decision you make to ensure you are protected accordingly. Stay safe out there!

Look, this forum isn’t intended for discussions about health policy. I apologize if I contribtuted to hijacking this post in any way. As you can see,it is a topic I feel strongly about. It was easier for the government to get their message out in those days. There was no social media platforms available for every crackpot to jump on and spread their nonsense. I remember the naysayers when seatbelts were mandated. They produced “scientific” studies showing seatbelts actually contributed to fatalities in car crashes. Similar to the “ doctors” the tobacco industry trotted out explaining that cigarette smoking was beneficial.
