So we're looking to move a shipment ex Detroit area to GTA , regular long time client, medium size LTL, nothing crazy. Get an outfit named HS TRUCKING, Mandy Bath is the operations manager. So we book the shipment with HS TRUCKING but we don't know them , so while doing our due diligence we notice she failed to provide proof of insurance in her package. We expedited the work order to get the truck rolling, so HS TRUCKING already had our info. When we called to get the insurance questions answered Mandy began balking at the rate she had just accepted. Then she's not sure she can make the closing time....blah blah blah the same old $hit so we just cancel the truck, we'll work with someone we know will do the job. In the next five minutes Mandy from HS TRUCKING had already called our client and shipper, offering her services direct...seriously ? That's where HS TRUCKING gets their sales leads ? Next time run home empty. The shipper and client both called me and complained. I been working for these people for 25 years. You're going to have to work a little harder then that to scoop business from me Mandy Bath.

Kinda off topic..... but hypothetically, is it better to try out a new carrier on a long term loyal like say of 25 years.. or try out a new carrier on a cash/cod/credit card client?

We all need new carriers at some point, some do more due diligence than others..... but failure is always an option we never want.
 
Back soliciting has to be handled the same manner in which you might want to ask out your buddies ex girlfriend. Firstly, you need to let a proper amount of time go by before you jump in and make your intentions known. Secondly, you need to decide if the long term relationship with you buddy is worth risking over the possible short term relationship with his ex.
If you are still willing to risk the consequences then go for it!

Keep in mind though, that it wont be long before you notice that your other buddies stop introducing you to their girlfriends.

In this case, it is not an ex girlfriend, he is in the middle of a date..............

we all know companies that have back solicited, and no matter what the reason is for back soliciting it's just plain wrong!! we work hard enough to get good staff and have them build relationships with customers, it's even harder when some provider just walks onto the scene and takes all the credit and cuts the rate...

Carriers do it to other carriers as well!
What pisses me off is when a big carrier - like Titanium - back solicits a small carrier's customers! The big carrier insinuates that they can offer a better service because they are bigger and have more equipment and can do the work at a much, much cheaper rate. What customer wouldn't be tempted? Once the smaller guys are squeezed out and time has passed, the bigger carrier ups the rates! And then I read how there is a shortage of drivers and how 'smart' the big companies are for buying up other companies. If you have more work than trucks - give some of it to the small carriers!

well just when you think you've seen it all, you get a message to call the owner of the company, Harpreet @ HS TRUCKING. I did and he says he's given a stern warning to his employee and is sure she won't ever call a client direct again. He sounded very sincere I must say, and assured me he wants to work for us. Now I've done stupider things, but he sounds like a stand-up guy to me so we're going to give him a go another day. Few guys would call back and take the time to try and make things right...in fact it's probably never happened that I recall cause I got some pretty old grudges I'm waiting on karma to deal with...

He told my staff that took his message that he was worried he heard I wrote a bad review of him...glad to see word gets around...it should make the proprietors of Inside Transport feel good to know this...I hope...cause if you play bad you should hear about it...Thanks Inside, here's $50 for the cause

Keep us all posted on how things go with HS Trucking please. I'll wait to hear the outcome before removing them from our "bad boy" list.
 
Wow IST good for you I know how hard it is to get money out of Parasite. Hell he has not bought me a beer in 6 years my Optimist Club tractor pull..

Wow, so a new carrier calls on your customer after receiving your load conf. He gets busted doing so, then calls you to apologize, and you are still willing to give him a chance? To top it off, Detroit - GTA . Really?

According to SAFER, 2123876 ONTARIO INC (aka HS Trucking) has 2 power units and they are a new carrier. Authority granted July 2015.
 
Unfortunately, more and more people in this biz get paid by commission. Not just sales people anymore. I can see a dispatcher who is new and doesn't understand the standard protocol of this business picking up the phone in an attempt to make an extra $25.00. I also applaud Harpeet the owner for not just taking the time to call and apologize but more importantly realizing the reality of getting a reputation as a back solicitor. I would give him a second chance, but if I caught him again I would be at his door with bolt cutters and give him a free vasectomy.

Way to get in a plug for the tractor pull Rob ! haha always glad to help, it's a great time and you know my fridge is always open.
You were all new once, so I won't hold that against him. I need trucks as bad as I need clients. While there are more carriers being created daily then there are clients, good ones are not always so easily found. Finding a guy with a conscience enough to do the right thing is a good enough start for me...that's who I want to do business with. Really I'm more impressed that the IST venue provided a forum to get the point across and created a positive result, for everyone

How old are work orders before you feel they are open season ? My buddy's exs are all taboo...forever
