B.R. Smith - 42 New Trucks....

Why is this even news. Doesn't this industry have enough REAL problems to discuss instead of reporting on someone who is buying a few trucks

G Roch buying trucks will not bring any more capacity to the marketplace, I can buy 20 trucks today but if they are parked up against the fence they are not much good. Gone are the good old days of buying trucks and they will come.

I'd say almost 100% they are for fleet renewal. A lot of their equipment is old. BR Smith hasn't had much good news to report for some time so at least that's somewhat of a shining light.

I'm buying trucks too ... Just not 42 at a time :)
The article never likely said that they are for delivery over a 12 or 18 month period either did it?
Everybody, at least everybody that intends to stay in business, is buying trucks.

How does a company under bankruptcy/creditor protection - purchase a new fleet? Tough time in the industry for many...A lot of closed doors and layoffs as of late for those who couldn't turn things around and get their heads above water. Just don't understand how sinking ships are able to buy more boats....

Perhaps I'm missing something here....a crucial piece to the puzzle.

Aaahhh - that would explain it. I did a search and saw the bit about Tepper Holdings - but NOT that they exited protection.

Thanks for posting...

Much of this is the Truck News kissing the OTA's (and their prized memberships) butts.

The same way they did when Walker and MacKinnon "merged" to hide the fact that the OTA president's own company went bankrupt.

This isn't news. Most of all is doesn't say over what period of time the 42 trucks will be delivered.

I'll bet that some of the big guys (Challenger, Verspeeten, Quik X etc.) buy just as many if not more trucks than this at a time.

unbelievable.
