ArriveCan app

We all know what it means when you "assume", it's these kind of stories about people being stupid but blame the government anyways. Trust me I'm not a supporter of this government but you have to do some research so this does not happen to you.

The ArriveCan app was once required in spring/early summer 2021 for drivers to enter their information when coming back from the US. It was the tool that CBSA used to confirm that the driver was symptom free and the app was supposed to alert the driver (x) days later to confirm on the app that continue to have no symptoms. All this was done on the honour system. CBSA struggled to get critical mass to use the app as some drivers only had flip phones, others did not want to use their data in the US, others just outright refused. Around mid summer it seems like CBSA was not asking for it and enforcement went down and as drivers usually do, if there is no enforcement, they won't do it.
Recently, (November) they have refined the app to include a way to scan or link your vaccination QR code to your profile. This makes the app a lot more useful to CBSA and now they expect all inbound persons to use it no matter what mode of transportation you come in by or weather you are considered essential or not. CBSA have started to enforce the ArriveCan app for all drivers. I don't remember an announcement specifically for commercial vehicles. The ArriveCan website shows that it is required as of Nov 30, 2021 but I cannot see where this was specifically sent out to the public. I know I don't peruse the ArriveCan app each week to see if there are any changes. For truck drivers you enter your information in the ArriveCan app and you get a number and QR code that you can use each time you cross. You don't get a new code unless you update your profile (get vaccinated, get a booster etc). Should you choose to travel in a personal capacity it is expected that you update the app with new information. Once you get back into truck driving mode you will have to update the app once again and get a new QR code.

So a friend has one code for when he trucks and another when going across for personal use... very simple he says to switch

At ArriveCan check points at YUL nobody is actually checking the app

They just want to know if you have it and you can move along

Going over the land border surely will require one to present the travelers bar code
