Load Link currently has 109 postings for Toronto to Montreal. I myself have reluctantly turned down about 15 loads from reputable carriers/brokers and another 20 or so from not so reputable ones.

Getting out there is never an issue, it's coming back where you have to dig around a bit.

My truck will be in NY on Monday, when I was searching a back load to Toronto or Montreal - only 8 results came up. :o

Unfortunately, the only consistently productive load board for Canadian Carriers is LINK.

Most of us hate it and their practices, but we are a captive audience and have little other options.

Maybe you should get Link for a few months, (the cost would be prohibitive with one truck) for a longer period and see if you can forge a relationship with a good broker.

The industry at this time may not be a good place for you to try to run independently.

I see you are trying to run Ontario/Quebec and now you have a truck in NY.

If it is the same truck, you should not try to compete with regional Canadian Carriers because their insurance costs are less than half of what you are paying to run stateside.

What you may also try to do is find another carrier that can post your truck for you and give him a flat fee or a percentage. This may be hard again in today's climate due to rampant identity theft and fraud. Your contact information would not match that found on LINK.

Best of luck!

Hi Alx

My truck going to Montreal is to pick up a load to go to the U.S. I am very new in dispatching, but I think I will figure it out slowly. I wonder what is the general rate per mile? Is $2 dollar per mile a fair price? One thing you mentioned scares me is the fraud on website. Can't I always factor my checks?

Thank you for reading and replying to my questions.

Loads

call Link to find out what they have for checking out new members - 905-795-0580. I know they verify guys.

I think i'm going to start building flat screen tvs tomorrow. Even though I have no experience in that field i can see everyone has a tv so i'll do very well. I'm sure someone at insideflatscreens.com can help me get started. If anyone wants one the price will be $399 because i saw one at Walmart for that price.

This posting is like watching a train wreck, it is great that you want to start your own business but from what I can see you are taking loads out of Montreal yet have no idea of how to get to Montreal. You are trying to work off of load boards that no one uses, everyone complains about the Link but they are the only game in town. You do not know your costs because if you did you would not be asking what to expect on a per mile basis and lastly I would guess that your are underfunded because you are talking about factoring your invoices. You are entering an industry where it is probably the most volitile it has ever been, everyone thinks it is better but if you do not have cash you are in a bad spot. You have to watch everything you do and you need to have cash or you will not survive. This is a little harsh but it is reality you may want to sign up your truck(s) with Landstar and gain some experience but have stability also. Good Luck

Lowmiler, you put into words what I have been thinking with every new post on this thread. Sometimes a strong dose of harsh reality is the best advice a start-up company can receive.

I totally agree with you, it is very painful for us now. Everything is hard for me. Since I am already in the pool, what choice do I have? If the train going to be wrecked, the only thing for me to do now is to avoiding it happened. Got no choice. Lots of pressure.

Call me

OntarioSimon, give me a call, as a fairly new broker myself I have dealt with many of the challenges you are facing, and had to adapt and react very quickly, not saying I know it all but I have learned more than my share in the past few years, and I may be able to help you along in certain areas.
