Yes, the driver shortage may help put upward pressure on the rates but I am afraid that everybody will be raising the carriers costs as well. Remember, the carriers had a rough go but so did a lot of their suppliers. Tire suppliers, OEM parts and service, fluids (both diesel and oil) vendors as well as drivers will want a bigger peice of the pie and I don't think that the carrier will be able to keep much more of any increases they can obtain.

I think in the end the carrier will be asking for more and paying more but keeping the same which won't produce a better carrier.

Just my 2 cents worth. I'll check back at this post at the end of 2011.
