Repairs / Overhaul on under-ride guards?

Hi All,

I have a client we ship for whom's primary business is repairing and refurbishing light rail machinery. They are looking into other areas of expansion and asked if I could look into the following to see if it has any merit:

I am looking to understand more about the regulations and industry appetite for the repair/overhaul of under-ride guards or rear impact guards on trailers. Given MSR's skill-set, on-site equipment and experience in a similar industry (overhaul and re-certifying rail / transit parts), we are looking to explore the viability of a overhaul program for these guards.

  • Are there any current players in the GTA currently who overhaul this part? Other welded trailer components?
  • Is there restrictive regulations limiting the ability to overhaul / re-certify these guards?
  • Is the price of new guards burdensome enough to create an after-market for these parts?
  • When repairs are done to under-ride guards, do fleet maintenance companies repair and re-certify themselves?
