Who uses 3rd Party IT services?

In my experience, when you are a small outfit (5-10 employees) if you have someone that knows a bit about IT you can probably squeak by. You will want to focus on security of your data, backing up your data, getting the correct hardware for each user based on their needs and procuring the best software for how you do business. When you get larger, more time would be needed handling all this, so outsourcing makes sense.

At my former employer, we used the services of Eyes Everywhere. Mike and his team are amazing. I've no idea if he's accepting new clients but he's literally an extension of your business without having to hire someone full time on staff. Currently I'm with My 365 Virtual Office. AJ and team are also awesome. These service providers handle all the stuff you don't want to deal with, Microsoft accounts, data backup, updating your windows, anti virus and malware etc.

Here's the thing: you live and breathe transport. You have learned so much in the decades that you've been in transport. It would be nearly impossible for you to download all you know to a green dispatcher. these guys live and breathe IT, it's what they do. Most IT providers charge based on the number of user accounts they need to maintain and again, in my experience they are worth every dollar.

I suppose if you get big enough, at some point it will make sense to hire your own person or team of IT people. My wife was director of IT for a firm for a decade and she had several employees she managed. She was the only IT person when they were 7 employees, but when the company grew to several locations and 350 employees you need an in house team to take care of that.

Keep well,
Mike

I do already have 3rd party IT provider. The problem I am having with them is that I now need to audit every single transaction with them, and that is tremendously time consuming. These guys have been with me forever, but service is waning and prices are increasing. Time to go shopping.

Ya, that's not good. You have to be able to trust your IT provider to do everything you are paying for and to predict what you will need in the future.

Hoping one of the referrals works out for you sir!

Keep well,
Mike

We use a very small IT company and they handle all of our IT including, network infrastructure, hardware procurement and maintenance, M365, communications and our TMS.

Given the amount of customization to our TMS I feel like we are stuck.

@Michael Ludwig I agree 1000% "service is waning and prices are increasing"
