Good afternoon all,

I have been working in transportation for almost 7 years and always wanted to open my own firm at some point. I have been delaying it for more than a year and waiting for a good time. But i guess, whenever you start is a good time or it will never happen. I am starting with 2 trucks only. Still in process of getting registered and looking at equipment's.

Don't want to sound arrogant but whenever i book shipments - customers like my communication and customer service. My top priority has always been customer satisfaction. Good or bad but communication is must for me. But brokers are not the same these days and don't have any intention of building relationship and working together which makes it harder for any new carrier.

Looking for any suggestions that can help !!!

Start by setting up a driver Inc. Style wage system. From there, diversify your network and find some new sister companies to book your overflow. Outsource your dispatch overseas - Book everything you can, send in your sister companies when you're too busy. Don't get the appropriate regional permits, heck don't get any permits. Get a triaxle flatbed so you can haul both heavy and step deck loads over height. Bring only straps and then say you didn't tell me I needed chains? Toss some recaps on, let Truck stops be your end all to any maintenance, pick a cool name but never put your last name, use a Gmail account and...
Voila, welcome to the big show! (But in all seriousness, good luck, truly - it's tough out there). Where are you operating? Cross-border? Local?

LMAO i hate those people man. I am a 2nd gen in this industry. My dad and i, enjoy this business. He always tells me - you don't need to make 20 customers, build maybe 3-4 good customers but give them the best service you can. I have seen him working since i was a kid and it was so simple and straight forward. None of this BS. But all those funny things you said above are unfortunately true and happening out there. Those people are cockroaches of the industry and have eaten up the system. But we all are part of it, carriers, brokers, customers, mechanics.... everyone. I don't know if that crap can change now since it's too deep in the system.
Anyhow, i will be doing Canada wide and Cross border. Don't usually have many options in starting so whatever is good paying and worth moving my truck.
