TQL, the worst broker to deal with……they don’t pay waiting time, they just laugh at you and say we will see what the customer says. If anything negative happens you can expect a deduction without notification. Truckers are much better off just saying no to these losers . I know we have to cover the trucks but if you have a choice take a load from anyone else.
Couldn't agree more. I have made errors quoting, but never on purpose. The only thing worse than having no freight to ship, is having horrible paying freight to ship. Carrier makes no money, and neither do I. lolThe only time I’ve quoted low was by mistake..getting into unfamiliar markets..obviously I try not to do that but occasionally it happens. Not sure why any broker would try to purposely undercut the going rate to get business. Worse than having no loads to move would having a bunch of cheap loads that can’t move because they’re priced too cheap.
Noticed this too, happening more often. If you look at it from the brokers perspective it all adds up at the end of the month, $25-50 extra per load, could mean an extra $1000-2000 a month.noticing a new trend now, Broker asks for a quote, submits said quote to customer, once approved, goes back to the carrier and says we need to be about $25 to $50 bucks cheaper. Can't prove it but there's no way every time we quote something we are off by only $25 to $50 bucks to be "awarded the lane".
Just negotiating tactics, a VP looking at the margins told everyone to get $25 off every load. Second Quarter is almost over and someone wants their bonus.noticing a new trend now, Broker asks for a quote, submits said quote to customer, once approved, goes back to the carrier and says we need to be about $25 to $50 bucks cheaper. Becide CAD $0.7 per mile, yeh, $30.00 USD cheque delivery is outrageous, eh..
It’s perhaps the brokers’ version of “can you do another $100.00 on the rate? How is it that I’m always $100.00 too low? One has to remember that most brokers and carriers are nothing more than trained seals.. they’re trained to say a few key phrases and that’s that.noticing a new trend now, Broker asks for a quote, submits said quote to customer, once approved, goes back to the carrier and says we need to be about $25 to $50 bucks cheaper. Could agree, but considering 13 pieces, ( even 10,000 lbs), most carriers count as FTL.. But, you know..LTL from CGY that's not bad, but $30, they better have advised ahead of time of that charge or incorporated into the rate.

I wish it was only 25-50...we are seeing quoted rates with $1000 difference btw high and low and in between.noticing a new trend now, Broker asks for a quote, submits said quote to customer, once approved, goes back to the carrier and says we need to be about $25 to $50 bucks cheaper. As soon as carriers get a whiff of the market pendulum changing to their direction you will see the rates jump exponentially as carriers attempt to cover their losses over the past year.I wish it was only 25-50...we are seeing quoted rates with $1000 difference btw high and low and in between.
Just nuts right now.....

1000% this. I remember the brokers we gave fair rates to back in the wild times, and I remember who has taken care of us during this downturn. There's going to be a lot of sad brokers when it flips around. As soon as carriers get a whiff of the market pendulum changing to their direction you will see the rates jump exponentially as carriers attempt to cover their losses over the past year.
This is when some (less scrupulous) brokers will have to come clean to their freight paying customers that they have taken advantage of carriers and have ruined any chance of a steady business relationship with the carrier.
Freight paying customers who have gone to brokers/carriers with, 'I have someone who can do it cheaper' will also lose out and pay through the nose as they have ruined their relationship with brokers.
One of our 20 yr + customers got a new "Traffic Manager" who has found a bunch of carriers that will haul cheaper. He's going to be in for such a surprise..Definitely agree Jack. I have tried my hardest to not be part of the low paying freight issue, and so far, it seems my carrier partners have appreciated that. I have a great core of carriers that work for me, and am thankful for them all. Respect and integrity is a two way street.
