be safe out there

Most companies like this double broker. Again, if companies had to get licenses like they do in the states, to become a broker, companies like this would not exist. Our Liberal Federal Govt, propped up by the far left, has more important things to do. Like destroy our economy and force people into tents on streets.
Holding, or not holding, an operating license as either a carrier or a freight broker, does not mean that the holder will somehow refrain from participating in a double brokerage scheme. This site has numerous examples of properly licensed carriers and brokers double brokering freight. Although certainly many of our country’s problems can be placed at the feet of the current Federal government, double brokering isn’t one of them.

Is a Bond not required?

To conduct cross border freight brokerage, regardless of where you are domiciled, you must be registered with the FMCSA. That registration process does involve obtaining a Surety Bond in the amount of 75K. This regulation applies to both asset and non asset based companies who engage in brokering freight across the U.S./Canadian border. Having this proper registration, including the surety bond, is in no way a guarantee that the company will not engage in double brokering or any other less than ethical business practices.

Required sure.

Enforced? Not a chance.

Shipper is the last line of defense to check the bond before giving a broker cross-border freight.
As a properly licensed and insured freight broker, nothing would please me more than asking shippers and carriers to check the credentials of any freight broker they plan to use.
