We took a load from Ajax to this Amazon DC in Nepean last Sunday, got there in time Monday am and my driver was told it was a drop trailer, when they tendered me the load I asked the guy who called me later on the phone how long was going the drop trailer was going to be since the order said drop trailer and the tender was sent to us only 4:30 hrs before the pick up, I try to not send it back because they immediately hit your score, he said just a few hours, we don't do much stuff for them but I trust them since they are mostly straight and fair, the receiver once the driver got there told my driver that it was 72 hrs, so I opened a case and they started emailing the DC, asking for and et of unloading, they were not answering, Tuesday past by, I asked my driver to stay there while I tried to resolve the issues, in my life never I had heard so many lies and excuses, they moved the trailer to a dock but never touched the load, today my guy was at the window at 6:00am again we decided to stick around on behalf of goodwill and lasting relationships, to our surprise the receiver said that it could be another two o five days since that load was not important to them, my driver asked like 20 times to speak to a responsible manager, always very nice, to no avail, the ROC, opening a case and the rest of Amazon gadgets were not doing anything but sending the whse emails that they never responded, so this morning I asked my driver to give the phone to the receiver to talk to him, very nicely I told him that I wanted my trailer empty at 10:00 am exactly 72 hours since we dropped, or he had the option to return it empty or loaded and we would take the load back to Ajax, he refused both options, I told him that I would call the cops and that neither one of us needed that, he said I don't care, so I requested the Ottawa police for assistance, when they went I tried explaining them on the phone that we were all the time around the trailer waiting, that we never surrendered or lent it to them, it was a one time arrangement and that the fact that the trailer is my property and that sort of supersedes everything else I wanted my trailer back immediately, one of the cops was telling them very nicely that the trailer had to be unloaded and returned and so on, the other cop was just talking about this been a civilian matter and they had nothing to do over there, in the end that officer made an arrangement with a fat whale that supposedly is the manager of the whse that they would release the trailer tomorrow by noon which I doubt, I expressed the need to have the trailer back right away but the cops were already convinced by them that it was fine like they agreed to, I ended up feeling like one of the cops was bargaining my property rights away and left us empty handed when we have the right to remove the trailer right away. Any opinions on this ugly experience will be welcome. Thanks

Do not work with Amazon - had a similar experience at the AB location / they wouldn't let us go get food or use the washroom there - and the warehouse staff was just plain rude

There's no such this as good will with amazon. You are a number - nothing more, nothing less. If you can't put up with their disregard for efficiency, don't take their loads. You'd be amazed how much better life is without Amazon freight

Yes, I’ve cut out Amazon and Walmart and have got some colour in my hair back.

Did you take this load from RXO? They offered this shipment few time, luckily we refused.

All Amazon and Walmart deliveries are nightmares, and ZERO waiting times paid, but man don't be late then they will fine you, but they can take their time,,Geeze driver/ carrier looses again

Amazon comes too me we do not go to them. Wally world, Loblows and Sobeys all in same boat in our books. Loads of last resort.
Couldnt agree more. We stay away from all of those as well. Not worth the fight. We once got a fine for being 2 mins late at Walmart. $1700 fine for that. Driver was stuck at security check in for 15 mins and due to that he was 2 mins late. Ridiculous!

I have heard of those horror stories about fines etc and good luck fighting that with Walmart. Getting a hold of someone at Walmart HO would likely be impossible.

We do a portion of work with Amazon. Once you understand the system, it's not too bad. It is however, a pretty steep learning curve.
Pro tip # 1 ... just because Amazon signed you on as a carrier and gave you an Amazon SCAC does not mean you are entitled to, or will even get, Amazon freight.
For context: In Canada there are roughly 2,900 carriers signed on to work with Amazon. There are about 750/800 carriers that do Amazon loads throughout the course of a year. There are only 200/250 carriers that work with Amazon on a regular basis. That's about 8.5% of all signed carriers that get regular work. So, thinking that just because Amazon signed you on you will get work is a fool's errand.
Pro tip # 2 ... if you are new to this industry, and are getting into the trucking because it's an incredibly low threshold for entry, and you have no other source of income, Amazon will absolutely let you run yourself and your finances into the ground. They make it very clear they are not going to hold your hand or listen to your sob stories. They hire you to do a job, and to do the job their way. If you screw up, that's on you.
Pro tip # 3 ... they give you all of the information you need to price a job. If you can't figure it out, too bad for you.
Pro tip # 4 ... Amazon is a business. Its goal is to make money, and it will make it every way it can. It will absolutely take the lowest price for a lane every time. It is of no concern of Amazon's if the lowest price is unsustainable to the carrier. The carrier is supposed to be a professional company. If it can't figure its shit out, that's not Amazon's problem.
Pro tip # 5 ... If you think you can have a personal relationship with Amazon, you're an idiot.
You might have a personal relationship with Amazon people that you talk to, but at the end of the day their hands are tied by company policies. There is nothing they can do to bump you up the food chain. If they try, they will lose their jobs, and Amazon jobs at that level are incredibly well compensated. None of them are going to risk that for you.
Perfect Example ... there is a trend in Amazon auctions for carriers to tender ridiculously low bids (recently a carrier bid one single Canadian dollar for an entire 9 hour shunt shift) in the hopes that winning a lane with a ridiculously low bid will open up a conversation with the procurement team so the carrier can tell their sad tales of woe and hope the procurement team representative will feel sorry for them and give them the lane at a real, sustainable rate. Care to guess what the carrier gets for that effort? ... Blacklisted !!!
For most new carriers to the Amazon space it is the trucking industry's equivalent of bringing a knife to a gun fight, and Amazon is the one with the gun !!!

Most of Amazon's work is garbage, and one would be a fool to build their business off of it. We had a few carriers in BC that relied heavily on Amazon work and went belly up. It's good here and there if you're using it as a supplement to your existing work

You cannot build your entire workload off Amazon freight for sure, however, it can still be a significant part of your operations if you know how to manage it properly.
There is one acronym everyone must remember when working with Amazon - NEMF - keep that in mind at all times.

New England Motor Freight ?? They went bust..
Bingo. You ever read why?
About 90% of their work was Amazon. Amazon walked in one day and said "We found cheaper alternatives" and pulled ALL of their contracts. No head's up, no notice, no inkling that anything was going downhill. Just fulfill the VRIDs you have booked and that's it.

@Michael Ludwig Very well said... extremely accurate, and truthful. I highly suggest that "new" carriers looking to work with AMZN know exactly how to properly sustain their business ops and ensure pricing model is stable and profitable, otherwise its a quick and easy way to lose your shirt and or get blacklisted.

Yes, AMZN work can be profitable, niched, and easy to manage if you are smart about it. I aint spilling our secrets tho :)

Thank you again Michael for the excellent post!
