Just throwing it out there for those of you who are C-TPAT certified.

Did you send out questionnaires to load brokers? When they told you that they are not eligible C-TPAT participants, what did you do?
Did you just leave it at that and note it down, or did you send a follow up security questionnaire of some sort?

As a load broker, we receive a steady stream of C-TPAT security questionaires from our suppliers. We always try to complete them to the best of our ability and send them back promptly. As most of you know, there are only a few questions that brokers can answer with anything more than N/A (not applicable).

yeah it sucks for brokers since freight forwarders and NVOCCs are eligible...

My experience with these information sheets is this:

When the load broker sends it to you, they are just updating their carrier files so they know who is C-TPAT certified because their customers or suppliers demand it. I remember this from one broker who wanted to update everything from how many FAST drivers they had, CSA certification, hazmat, etc.

If a carrier sends it and you are also C-TPAT, you have to complete the survey of security protocols because DHS expects you to know who your partners are (swapping SVI numbers isn't enough.) Also, getting a certificate and SVI from a carrier doesn't always mean they are still C-TPAT certified. If you check the DHS C-TPAT website to see if a carrier is really still registered with the C-TPAT program. If you use a carrier that was deregistered because of failing a facility audit or what have you, you may not be aware of it until you check the website. Of course, you have to be a registered C-TPAT participant to check other members of C-TPAT.
