Does anyone have experience with Western Logistics in Brampton? Just curious to know what their service is like as either a carrier or what their payment history is like as a broker. Thanks to all.

They specialize in furniture and have terminals across the country including in Chicago and I believe Detroit. I opened an account with them as their rates where really competitive but it is not furniture or similar, they won't even quote me. I found that strange.

Thanks for the info. From what I've been able to find, they don't seem to be affiliated with Vitran, and they do specialize in transporting new furniture and appliances. Curious as to why, as an asset based company, they would be inquiring about our services as a stand alone broker. If anyone has any additional information, especially as to their payment history, I would be very interested in hearing about it before we move ahead.

Hi, we (VA Transport, transport of furniture and appliances) have been dealing with Western for many years (since 1997) as we use them as a partner to deliver to our western customers. They are a slow paying customer, usually at 45 days & over. Lately they have lost money in a few bankruptcies and their cash flow has been very low in the past 2 years.

Thank you creditva. Although a not a glowing endorsement, we will proceed, but carefully and slowly.

They are slow payers, 60-90 plus days. Constant hounding required. So far we are getting paid, but in these terms. On occasion, we have to put them on credit hold to allow them to get their account more current. I am sure during these times they are using the services of other suppliers. They are definitely the customer that causes me the most worry.

From your post I take it you are concerned about their financial stability as a whole? How long has this company been around?

Appreciate the post.

They have been around since 1990, so they're not a new entity. They just like to use their suppliers money to operate their business instead of their own. It's easier and cheaper to do that, than to use a bank. Just because I understand it, doesn't mean that I like it and they are certainly not the only business that operates that way. As I said, we keep them on a relatively short leash, and we don't hesitate to "take a time out" if they run up too large an outstanding balance.

My old place was doing their intermodal business for a while. The guy who is the President now used to be Director of Supply Chain at one of their customers. They specifically handle furniture so all the furniture manufacturers here are using them to some degree.

Just an update on these guys. We have been dealing with them for a couple of years now. As I mentioned in an earlier post, we are constantly putting them on credit hold for delinquent payments. During these times, they must be using the services of other brokers and/or carriers. Just a word of caution if any members of this site are currently providing them with service. We have unpaid invoices from August and getting payment is becoming increasingly more difficult. Small cheques issued far too infrequently and only as a result of incessant pestering. Be cautious and feel free to PM me if further information is required.

What's surprising about them is that I know that they do business with a lot of brokers who re-broker their freight. I know they don't act as a transactional broker but I would expect they would be able to manage carrier procurement better.

Just a final update on Western Logistics. We finally received payment for our last unpaid group of invoices, short of course, one that they dispute for "late delivery". Countless phone calls, emails, increasing levels of threatening actions on our part. If any members of this site are currently doing business with them and would like any additional information regarding our experiences, please send me a PM and I will be happy to describe.

Nothing recent. Still on our DNU list since 2014. Had heck of a hassle to collect on $300.00 invoice. So many phone calls; 3 invoice resubmissions as per each collection call they were claiming that invoice is not on record.

We abandoned our relationship back in the summer of 2017. The volume was good, the rates were acceptable, just that after awhile, they would stop paying. We were constantly hounding them for past due invoices many at 100+days. If you are currently doing business with them, or are considering it, be prepared for a fight to get paid.
