Safersys shows them as having 69 trucks.

I've used these guys a few times on LTL from my dock to KS, OK & TX. It's always been their truck that's mad the pick up.

We once had a particularly time sensitive shipment and we stressed this to the driver. His reply was "I tell you what... give me your number and I'll call you directly when I deliver."

I've never had any trouble with these guys.

Re: Gilmyr

The last shipment we gave them was 100% on their own equipment, verified by PARS on the BOL...

They are using O/O that operates under their permits. They also have a large fleet. Very good service and do not hesitate to use them as they are very reliable.

So here's my take on this...

There's not a carrier out there that hasn't swapped freight with another at one point in time (perhaps the tanker, dump and other special commodities guys excluded - I some how doubt that they're visitors here anyway). You know... it's Friday afternoon I have a half to Dallas you have a half to Ft Worth... I have a half to Kansas City you have a half to Topeka... You take the two Texas parts and I'll take the two Kansas parts... and everyone will get their freight delivered.

Brokers have to realize... sometimes... it just happens. Loads fall through... and decisions get made with out you.

Perhaps Lakayllah, what's happened is one of these cases. It happens.

I think that readers here really have to go with the majority and make an educated decision.

But to simply post "ABC COMPANY DOUBLE BROKERS FREIGHT" without supplying any details is just throwing stones.

RE: NAWK.
I do agree with you that things happen and loads fall through.
As a broker my problem with your statement begins with......
"Decisions get made without you". If one of your loads falls through and effects my part, I should be the first to know about it. I gave the load to YOU, because of a good working relationship. Perhaps I don't want my freight with the other carrier you gave it 2. On the flip side perhaps I won't mind them... Either way I am the one PAYING THE BILL, so at least give me the choice.

Surprised

I am surprised to hear that Gylmir double brokered freight.
Your comment is very short and has litlle detail attached.

This company is very reputable and we have worked with them over the last couple of years without any issue.

They have a drop yard in Dorval which they share with quite a few Eastern Quebec Carriers, such as CRS Express. Their warehouse doors are actually adjacent. I delivered freight to their dock this past Sunday.

It may be possible they share freight delivery from their MTL terminal towards Quebec city and the Beauce area.

They pay very quicly , check in hand before the 30 days are up , and their service is impeccable.

Hey Madbooker... don't get me wrong... My company is primarily a brokerage. Although we do operate a few pieces of company owned equipment. I'm not saying it's right that "decisions are made without consent of the party paying the freight bill" but it happens and likely always will. Although, most of the carriers that we deal with repetitively have my cell number and know that I'm always available. This is where brokers need to nurture their relationship with their carriers. Get to know them... visit their facilities... have them visit your operation... a good broker needs to differ oneself from the brokers that hire 20 year old kids to call for rate quotes on the same thing over and over (read CHR & TT). That said... if the carrier does make a decision that alters from the original plan to the extent of say "double brokering" your freight... they had better reach out and get on the phone to you first thing the next business day and explain that what they did was in your best interest.

I agree, you're paying - you ought to be consulted, in a perfect world. Ours is far from that and our industry... yeesh

They have grown a lot over the past two years. They are still very good and we haul for them regularly. They consolidate a lot. Know as the company to call for ltl to just about anywhere from the Quebec City/Levis, QC and the Beauce regions to the US and in Canada. A lot of their equipment is O/O s (tractors only) but they do have their own equipment, mostly their own trailers. They have trusted partners, including us, that work for them on a regular basis because sometimes they just don't have enough equipment to handle it all themselves. They pay well too. They also are approved for vehicle inspections by the SAAQ. If your are near Montmagny QC and need service, they can help there also.
Generalizing is never good. It's not like they just take freight from anyone and everyone and then just sell it.
Lakayllah, I could give you better reasons to use their services than not to...

If you look at a lot of trucks, you'll find that when they are owner-operators they have them running under their own authorities. So the truck may be decalled as Gilmyr, but lower on the door it may say O/O 'Blah Blah Transport' or something. Gilmyr's website says that they have 107 trucks and 26 'carriers' which is what they refer to as owner-operators. If you look at the gallery of their equipment, you'll see there is no consistency in the type of tractor except that they are red and decalled up.

I used Gilmyr most recently last month. There was a bit of turbulence with the freight but they went over the top in fixing it and making things right. Whatever can go wrong will go wrong and the measure of a carrier to me is how they handle it as well as their communication when something unexpected happens. Top marks from me and kudos to them.
