Hey, just a question. Does anyone know if FLS double-brokers a lot? They called me with freight from a customer I already deal with (and sadly, the shipper doesn't care if carriers double-broker because they want the freight out of their hair) and declined. He was amazed I knew who and what it was. Curious if anyone has had similar situations with them or if this is a fluke. Thanks.

No fluke, co brokering arrangements as others have

Co brokering please what BS. If they were given the freight by another broker that is Double Brokering.

FLS is like many other carriers in that what can move on their truck does and all other is brokered. If it came from one of their customers that wasn't a freight broker then it is only brokered by them and not double brokered/co brokered

I would be LAST person to approve of this pratice, this is what they and others call it. Most that they deal with are aware they broker as well. Why they put up with it I will never understand. All it takes is little investment in people by these US load brokers and they can get carriers on their own. FLS built their company this way, claiming to have trucks to customers but broker it all. Check their MC on safer that will tell the rest of the story. Can't really blame them doing well for themselves and have lots of customers as well.

Co Brokerage

FLS has been around for a long time and openned up several US offices over the years. A good part of their business grew out of CO Brokerage.
I for one find the practice of double brokerage, despicable. Quite often leading to the carrier not being paid for the work done. Naturally the original broker does not know his freight is being sold.

Why American freight brokers see the need to have a CDN freight broker help them move thier freight is beyond me?

FLS has developed long standing relationships with American brokers and works in conjunction with them.

Most importantly, they pay their bills on time and have no intention on running a scam as so many others.

ALX - FLS averages over 60 days to pay with us. I have asked their A/P to start cutting this down and have yet to see any improvement. I agree they pay - yes - certainly don't pay on time....

I do not do that much with them anymore. We are now at full capacity on our outbounds.
I usually deal with Keith and seldom had to wait over 45 days for recipt of check.
I have not done anything with them since the summer, I guess they have slowed down like many others.

FLS is definately one of the best in my opinion! Have dealt with them for many years and never had a problem. Fax the invoice and it gets set up for payment. They avg 41 days with us and I never need to call for payment but I do just cause they are great to talk to!!!

Yes they are very pleasant at FLS.

Although the receptionist at Journey in Montreal has them all beat. She has a lovely voice, she has a pleasant disposition and looks gorgeous.

She will even serve you a gourmet coffee while you wait for the checks to be signed.

She almost makes it worthwhile having to go pick up uour check after the 60 day wait!!!

Well thank you ALX, my receptionist appreciates your comment.

I will apologize about the payment terms of my company. Unfortunately I do not have any control over it (I only work in dispatch). We are being told it is going to get better

Watchdog, are you ok with taking double brokered freight or do you only take it if it is from a direct non freight brokered customer of theirs?

Ye I've never met her but she does sound great! I spoke with her today but I can't say much about their accounts payable and they can't compare with FLS. Ahhh $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ beats looks, I'll stick with FLS.

Lol not a fan of double brokered freight but the thing is I never have a concern about FLS and FLS just pays and pays and pays ontime everytime. If you think you will get screwed over for double brokered freight it definately wont be by FLS. Go Tania Caucci GO!!! Your doing a great job!

I know FLS has a lot of their own freight ... I run into them as competition. I am sure they have co-broker freight and in many cases the reason why freight is co-brokered has a lot to do with the actual shipper ... it is very typical when freight is managed through companies like Exel in particular. For the life of me, I don't understand why shippers think it's a good thing ... but it stems down to vendor management ... they want to deal with few vendors a lot.

It's when it's slime that take freight from one board and post on another that you have a real problem. While FLS is a competitor to me and I like kicking their butts ... they are not doing anything immoral.

Yes they double broker but don't solicite freight from a load board. They deal with some freight forwarders and broker their loads. They pay average and pay well on some of there loads and often give us what we quote.Usually all there payables are done out of MTL so I don't see how dealing with a particular office is any better than there head office.

We have been doing business with FLS for many years and have never had a problem collecting within 40 days. We have always dealt with their MTL office. Never a problem.
