Can anyone enlighten me on the permit and registration requirements for a Canadian freight brokerage who wants to offer intra-USA trucking services to USA companies? I am getting some conflicting information.

There is no problem with it as long as you have the right authority, basically a broker's MC#. With that, and the load broker's surety bond it shouldn't matter what laneways in North America you're doing. The same goes for US companies doing shipments within Canada.

Should there be a requirement to fork over the IRS share for the domestic US business? Is that a W8 or W9 or something? I don't get too involved in the accounting stuff.

Oh, don't forget to get 10 x the insurance coverage you currently have, I hear Americans like to sue. There's a song by Dire Straits I rock pretty well on Guitar Hero 'Money for Nothin'...

Keep well,
Mike

Yeah MC, Surety, proper insurance for yourself as a broker, and yeah you'll have to fork over some money to the US government same as you would here to the Canadian government.
