Hey guys, just wanted to let everyone know I-way is becoming as awful if not worse than CH Robinson.... offered me a load today REEFER from Winnipeg MB - Toronto ON with a drop trailer on delivery for 2 days paying 1300.00 CAD.... i think we should all band together in this industry and not take freight from them or these other rip off brokers that just rape pillage and steal. if nobody takes these garbage rated loads they will have no choice but to come up in price to the carriers or go out of business.,... either or isn't a bad option for slimey brokers like that

Good Luck, I get it's frustrating - but this will only continue to frustrate you more if you dwell on it. Energy is best spent on positive relationship building with direct customers. Or - don't go to Winnipeg?

The industry will never band together. it's a pipe dream, a wonderful one.

Does I-Way have a 3PL/Brokerage side to it? I was under the impression they were asset-based with no Broker Authority.

I don’t know I Way and I would never try and defend another broker whose business plan involves nothing more than trying to convince carriers to accept the cheapest rates possible. However, and I am sure other brokers on this site will agree, we all have a variety of rates on different lanes. Some, where our customer demands extra attention and service, pay a very good rate. Others, where our customer is strictly a price shopper and we have to compete with every Tom, Dick, and Harry, pay a marginal rate. In my 30 years of business, I have yet to meet a broker who pays a premium rate on each and every lane they have available. As the owner of the truck and provider of the service, you have the final say. If the rate sucks, don’t take the load.

@loaders i must have to disagree with you sir. Ive been in this industry for 15 years. if a carrier has to pay 1300.00 on the WPG-TOR lane, they are either trying to make a substantial margin and try to get carriers to go broke doing it, or they take cheap freight and to be honest I would not even allow my employees to take garbage freight..... why spend your whole day trying to beg carriers to take a load to Toronto for 1300.00 when you could use the time spent to instead prospect decent accounts that pay market value and aren't a headache.

we are asset based and have a 3PL Division. i warn my staff about taking cheap freight as the service failure will always fall on the broker and not the carrier in the customers eyes

as brokers we dictate the rates, if a customer doesn't want to pay fair rates why bother trying to broker their loads.... the risk vs the reward is far unbalanced

cheers friends!

no authority to broker// wouldn't be surprised if they brokered out the load i gave them 3 weeks ago

alot of brokers try to offer / pay less than 1 $ per mile when selling freight west to east, this is because the price we pay east to west is sustainability higher and brokers need to make $ also.

Why though, you burn your carrier base that way.... i have honesty and decency to see everybody eating.... just not at my table.... that is the lowest rate I've ever seen to Toronto for a reefer load, i know they got big smoke on it for sure. look how Big I-Way is... our brokerage does major numbers every month and I have NEVER tried to sell a load to Toronto for less than 1600.00 and that is still with having a good chunk of change for me on top

My point was not to justify what we all know is a crappy rate. Of course no one should be offering something like that. I must take exception with your comment that brokers dictate the rate. Nothing could be further from the truth and that type of thinking is what causes such low rates in the first place. Carriers, the ones who provide the service and own the equipment are the only ones who should be setting the rates. As brokers, we negotiate rates with carriers based on a number of different factors, determine what our mark up to our customer should be and then try and sell it. You are correct that taking on low rate freight is an exercise in futility and a complete waste of time.

$1600.00 is not that good rate either............ But it is what it is. Being a carrier most of the calls I make nowadays everyone is offering ridiculous rates. TQL be like ohhhh the fuel is so low right now and I just booked 10 other Carriers on the same lane. why are you asking for so much money? Do they get special training on how to manipulate people's minds?

Exactly, i agree 1600.00 isn't a great rate, but when the lane is paying between 18-2000.00 on dry loads, it's a fair move to make 200-300 margin on this lane, TQL is another broker who i call " shotgun " brokers... they send spam emails to their huge carrier network and will drop you for a rate of 25.00 cheaper... they can be good at times but also frustrating too... I agree with you wholeheartedly @Trans

As usual @loaders is right...pay attention to him!
As a carrier, you have the ability to say no, or you have the ability to hire sales reps to get your own freight. Know where you fit.

This industry is as old as prostitution, and functions the exact same way...can get a trick cheaper down the road, they will jump all over it,and you get fu---- one way or the other.
The market now is playing in the favor of the consumer,as they play the brokers between themselves, and then butcher the carriers, who end up with the long term effect.
There are good freight brokers out there, that work hard and reward their preferred carriers accordingly, who also work for it.
Those are the ones that you have to hookup with and develope a good re pour...flush the bottom feeders.
If your trucks provide the service, which is important to many of the higher reputable freight brokers, you wont need to even deal with the basement brokers.
